There’s no magic formula or set prescription for how to study effectively…every student is different!
You might study well in a library, while your roommate studies better in his or her dorm room.
The key is to try out different studying methods – including different study environments – to figure out what works best for YOU.

1. Organization is Key!
You have to plan if you want to accomplish.. anything. And the better your planning is the better your effects will be. It is really that simple. If you want to maximize your results, try planning your day the day before. It helps a lot as it delegates a lot of work to your subconscious to sort things out during the sleep.
There are a lot of methods and tools to do that, and if that got you interested come visit my article about just that topic, that can be found here (a little helpful bonus that can really help you):
2. Take Good Notes
Taking good notes is something crucial, when it comes to your exam results. Nowadays there are a lot of tools you can use, and if your teacher is okay with that you can even record your lessons. Remember that your notes are for you – so keep things clear and as readable as possible. There are a lot of notes taking strategies but what I would suggest is:
– Creating sections so the notes are readable
– Highlight only the most important stuff
– Create mnemonics, draw doodles, create stories, that will help you memorize the hard stuff

3. Revisit Your Notes
After you were studying something for a longer period of time, try going back into your notes and just read them again. This will help you refresh what you already know and create stronger neural connections in your memory bank.
Do this from time to time when you learn and day before the exam, it really does wonders.
Also – if you will do this properly, you can save yourself TONS of time. Try to take about a week break in between learning something and then revisiting your notes and see how fast you will get that knowledge back.
4. Teach Someone
This one is sooo cool. It helps you in so many ways:
First – you are repeating and revisiting knowledge that you already learned. In results you might find out, that you really do not know as much as you thought.
Second – you may find out that you don’t really understand that much just when you will try to explain something.
Third – you spend time with someone and that someone might give you some hints on what you’ve already studied and provide you with different perspective on that topic.

5. Eliminate Distractions and Take Smart Breaks
First of all – you should create time blocks for yourself – first block for studying and second for taking a break.
You should aim at 50-60 minutes of studying and 5-10 minutes of break. If 50 minutes is too much for you, that’s okay start with 25 minutes and build your way up. But here’s something really important – DO NOT USE your phone or any other form of distraction during this study block.
This will boost your performance like crazy (this concept is called Deep Work and you can read more about it in Cal Newport’s book with the same title).
